It's a short entry tonight, as I've spent most of the evening out.
We finished day two of our fixed assets workshop. It's going well, but not quite material for this medium.
After work, I met up with Bill, the University's Web Manager. We're working to convert the Admissions videotape into RealVideo. Our library has a new digital video suite that neither of us knows how to use. So we set this evening at five to sit down and learn what we could.
After just a few minutes in the tutorial, Bill and I agreed that tutorials are nice, but nothing's as much fun as plunging ahead into unknown territory. So we launched the Media 100 software and after many stops and starts managed to convert the fourteen minute video into a 1.7 Gig source file. Next time we get together, we're going to convert the source file to QuickTime. That'll take about three or four hours. Finally we'll convert the QuickTime file into RealVideo and serve it up (for 28.8, 56K, ISDN and 300 Kpbs).
Should be fun!
I got home just before nine o'clock, and Jean and I watched the Drew Carey hour on ABC. Jean's gotten her last haircut before the baby arrives. She was making her appointment for next time and set it for the middle of the day, since she'll be home with the baby at that point. That struck Jean in a funny way: one more affirmation that there's a life about to happen here.
I'm going to run now to get Jean into bed and clean the house up before going to bed myself. She's still sleeping all night long, and I want her to get another good night's sleep.
It was warm again today, though not quite as warm as yesterday. Working as late as I did tonight, I got to see the campus at night. It's quieter than in the daytime (certainly around the administrative buildings and the library), and the shadows seems especially dark.
