Take It Easy

Sorry for no post yesterday. It was another long day of fixed assets training that ended in frustration when Jean and I learned that some sheets we've been planning on getting for Bumpy's crib are no longer available (we thought they were, but the web site lied…). I opted to end my day rather than prolong it by revisiting the boring details.

Today was a better day. I completed fixed assets training, and I'm just beginning to catch up on work again (which is good). I'm on yet another committee! This one is apparently going to set software standards for the campus. I'm happy to be on the committee for two reasons.

First, the committee is predominantly composed of faculty. Since leaving the Registrar's Office I've lost touch with the academic side of things (Banner is, after all, an administrative system). It'll be nice to work with faculty again.

The second happy reason is that I'll get to see and hopefully use different software packages as the committee evaluates software recommendations. I'll get to play with more software, and will be involved in discussions about where we're going with what we've got.

Jean's office gave her a baby shower this afternoon. Her officemates gave her 130 Jeffrey dollars (that's $130 for purchases at Toys 'R Us or Babies 'R Us). That made it easier for us to purchase the stroller we've wanted.

So tonight after work Jean and I had dinner at Arby's (note to self: avoid fast food restaurants at dinnertime on Friday nights), we went to Babies 'R Us and bought the stroller. It's a Peg Perego stroller, the Roma model. We briefly debated stepping up to the Milano model (about $40 more), but decided we liked the style of the Roma better.

Get me: I have stroller preferences. I never thought that would have happened.

Jean is still doing well. We had a doctor's appointment yesterday. She hasn't started to dilate, and is still comfortable overall (which is a good thing this late in a pregnancy). We keep doing things late at night (like walking around Babies 'R Us stores) that make her back sore. Right now she's settled onto the sofa with her Boppy™ and her heating pad. She's working on a new knitting project for the baby.

If we're lucky, the pregnancy will continue to go well. The trick is keeping Jean off her feet so her back won't hurt. She's hoping to go into work this weekend and I might just encourage her to do so, since that'll keep her sitting in a chair. While she's at work, I can clean the house, which will give her one less reason to spend lots of time standing.

It was raining this morning, but by noon the skies were blue once again. I spent a good bit of my afternoon walking from my office to Jepson Hall to the Dining Hall to the Library to the Registrar's Office, and it was nice to be outside in just my sweater with no raingear!
