The business model for this company is a "freemium" model whereby they give customers basic services for free but require customers to pay a monthly subscription fee for the more advanced features. To extract the most value from their platform, customers have to pay the monthly subscription. However, most customers remain free (non-paying) customers.

As a result, the executives want you to train, validate, and test a predictive model to determine which customers are most likely to purchase the freemium service and which customers are likely to remain free (non-paying) customers. This problem is important as many modern customers seem to be unwilling to pay for services (i.e., they want everything for free). Being able to convert small percentages of customers from free customers to paying customers can have a big impact on profitability.
