Bedtime
July 13, 1999
Colette went to bed early tonight. I kept thinking she'd wake up later in the evening, since in weeks past she would go to bed at 7 or 7:30 and wake up for a short time at 10, but she's sound asleep now and I doubt she'll wake up. She had a low grade fever tonight, just slightly over 100 degrees. But Jean says she's breathing better than she did last night, so perhaps this illness is passing. I'm keeping that picture on my webcam (also the one in the corner today) where it is until she's healthy again. Sunday afternoon was just about the last point that Colette felt okay, and I am finding consolation in that picture while she sleeps tonight. I wish I could have played with her more tonight. Work kept me a little late, but really she just had to go to bed. So I got to play with her a little while Jean prepared her rice cereal. She's making a good transition to solid food. She gobbled up tonight's dinner with little mess. If Jean turned to talk to me for just a few seconds without getting Colette more cereal, she let us both know that was unacceptable. I'm looking forward to tomorrow morning, when I'll get to dress her and feed her. She's always happy in the mornings, even on those days when she can barely wait for breakfast. We'll play some then, and I'll probably have to scramble yet again to make it into work on time. She's making that transition now from the infant who smiles back into the baby who smiles just because she's happy, and both Jean and I find we can't spend enough time with her, watching her as she continues to get the hang of this place. She's now five months old – five months!! – how the time has flown. I can still remember those last days in early February when I was so impatient for her to get here. Now I wish time would slow down so I could savor these moments more.

weather
It's still cool outside, but the humidity has diminished the joy of temperatures in the 70s. Looks like more rain is expected over the next few days.
