Welcome back my friends.

Sorry for the long silence. Getting a routine going with Colette has been more challenging than I thought it would be. On top of that I've had to catch up in the office since I went away for two weeks back to back. My final deadline was on Monday of this week, when I finished the second draft of a user guide for the University's administrative database.

Colette is more fun with each passing day. She goes to bed around ten and sleeps the entire night until I wake her up around seven so I can get her ready for school. She's smiling frequently.

This morning I put her into a nice yellow outfit. The feet seemed a little big, but it was a pretty good fit overall. While I was feeding her in the study this morning, Jean told me that the outfit she was in is sized for six month olds. Yow! Her clothes were loose, but not that loose! Colette has had a healthy appetite lately. Our doctor told us no more than 32 ounces of formula a day until our next visit. This past weekend Jean and I realized that there was no way we were going to make it to April 30 on just 32 ounces a day. Jean and I have wondered if we should start her on solids as a supplement to her formula.

I spoke with Maha in the Registrar's Office, who encouraged us to give Colette however much formula she wants, but to hold off on solids until the fourth month. That's pretty much the consensus among all the baby books I've read. I just hope Colette will go another month an a half on just formula.

I'm still walking home from the University every night. Jean meets me down by the river with Colette in a stroller. It's a great way to unwind from a busy day. Jean and I catch up with each other while Colette scans the skyline and stares at us.

Tonight I took her for a quick grocery store visit. She was almost asleep when I got to the store, but I kept talking to her as I wheeled from aisle to aisle. By the time I finished at the deli counter, she was alert and grinning at everything I said.

Later this evening Jean was holding onto Colette while watching the news from Columbine High. This madness never ends. This time it looks worse than the others: possibly 25 dead, with bombs still on the scene. I heard that one of the killers said he was killing people of color, jocks, and people who were wearing hats. How senseless.

I know it's a big world. What's happened in Colorado is no less shocking than what's been going on for months in Kosovo. But after a pleasant evening in the company of my ten-week old daughter, the news tonight is a harsh reminder that this world is a fragile place.

Today was cloudier than it's been recently, but it was still warm enough for a pleasant walk home over the Huguenot bridge.

I've set up a webcam page. The page only refreshes when I'm home and awake, which is mostly nights and weekends.
