CIVIL DEFENSE SERVICE POSITION INSIGNIA OF THE LEADERSHIP CADRE OF THE ACTION FORCE: German Democratic Republic. Through 1989.  Uniformed Civil Defense (Zivilverteidigung) personnel wore arm insignia indicating their position in the Civil Defense structure.  These insignia consisted of dark red embroidered bars mounted on gray-green cloth.  Stripes were either full length on the mounting backing or approximately two-thirds length; stripes were either wide or narrow, approximately one half the width of a wide stripe.  The insignia and the leadership structure is shown in Table 1.
