HASKELL, WILLIAM N.:  United States.  World War II.  Served as the third and last Director of the Office of Civilian Defense in the Roosevelt Administration from 1944 to 1945.  In 1943 he had been a Democratic Party candidate for the position of Lieutenant Governor of New York, and had served as Director of the Office of Civilian Protection of the State of New York.
