In the standard additions procedure, the analyte concentration is determined by obtaining measurements after known quantities of analyte are added to the sample. The intent of the procedure is to correct for multiplicative effects that may be present in the sample matrix. Although usually more labor intensive and less precise than the calibration curve method, standard additions often provides better accuracy for complicated samples.
