Using the Recycle Bin

By default Window95 sends all deleted files, icons, and programs to the recycle bin. The recycle bin is a temporary storage location for deleted files. Using the recycle bin allows you an opportunity to recover a file you accidentally deleted.

To recover a file you accidentally deleted since the last time you emptied the recycle bin using the menu optons:

To use cut and paste to restore a file:

You may also use Windows Explorer to restore files in the recycle bin:

To permanently delete all files in the recycle bin open the File menu then choose Empty Recycle Bin.

Note: When a deleted file is moved to the recycle bin Windows 95 creates or appends file header information to a hidden file named INFO in the \RECYCLED directory. It then places the deleted files in the same directory and renames them. Files in the \RECYCLED directory have names that begin with DC, e.g. DC2.COM, DC3.DOC, DC4.TXT.
