Activating the Windows 95 Screen Saver and Password

To activate the Windows 95 screen saver program:

• Open the My Computer window.
• Double click the Control Panel icon.
• Double click the Display icon.
• Select the Screen Saver tab.
• Select the screen save pattern you want from the drop down list box.
• Select the number of minutes you want the system to wait before activating the screen saver in the Wait box.

To activate a screen saver password:

• Open the My Computer window.
• Double click the Control Panel icon.
• Double click the Display icon.
• Select the Screen Saver tab.
• Check the Password Protected box.
• Click the Change button .
• Enter the new password in the input box.
• Verify your new password by retyping it in the input box.
• Click OK to verify the password.
• Click OK to verify the screen saver configuration selections.

If you assign a password to a screen saver, people who do not know the password cannot clear the screen saver, and therefore cannot easily gain access to your computer. Do not rely on the screen saver password to safeguard your files however. A knowledgeable person can get around the screen saver password by re-booting your computer and bypassing the normal Windows startup.
