Move a File, Folder or Directory

As with many file management functions there is more than one way to move a file or folder:

To drag and drop a file or folder to a new location on the same disk:

• Select the file or folder icon that you want to move by placing the mouse pointer on it.
• Press the left mouse button and hold it down
• Drag the icon to new location.
• Release the mouse pointer to drop the file or folder in its new location.

Note: If you drag a file to a folder on the same disk, it will be moved. If you drag it to a folder on another disk, it will be copied.

You may also use cut and paste utilities to move files .

• Select the file or folder icon that you want to move by placing the mouse pointer on it.
• Right click the mouse.
• Click on the Cut option.
• Move your mouse pointer to the folder where you want to paste the file or folder you are moving.
• Right click your mouse.
• Click on the Paste option.

Alternatively, you may use the cut and paste icons on the toolbar if you have it activated. There are also keyboard shortcuts for the Cut and Paste functions. Use the Ctrl X key combination to initiate the cut function. Use the Ctrl V key combination to paste.
