Did I mention I'm moving?

Not the house: it's the office this time. When I took my position last September with Information Services, they didn't have enough room for me in Jepson Hall (where most of the Technology Services people dwell). I was given a few options, and decided a stint in Maryland Hall would be a nice change of pace.

Maryland Hall contains the President's Office, the Provost's Office, the VP for Business and Finance's Office, the Controller's Office and the Development Office. Two of these offices, the Controller and Development, are owners of Banner systems (I'm the Banner trainer). While Maryland Hall could only offer me space temporarily, I figured I could learn a bit about these two offices and how they use (and plan to use) Banner. For the most part I think I got what I came for. And while there's a part of me that's sad to leave my new pals behind, there is much I have to learn from the gang in Information Services.

Louie, my boss, took a position working for the VP for Business and Finance (which is where he worked before joining IS). Since he was moving back to Maryland Hall from Jepson, and since the Development Office kindly indicated that they wanted their space back, I knew it was time to move. Louie cleared out of his office in Jepson on Friday, and I started moving in yesterday.

The two offices couldn't be more different: the Maryland office was huge. Too huge. I contemplated running laps around the perimeter of the room just to feel like I was making good use of the space. Jepson, on the other hand, is probably a little smaller than the office I had in the Registrar's Office. I'll be a snug fit. Maryland Hall had five – count 'em FIVE – windows. Each was three feet wide by fifteen or twenty feet high. My office in Jepson has no windows, and it needs more light than the solitary fluorescent panel allows. The Maryland Hall office was remote, buried in the depths of the Development Office. Jepson is always busy, with faculty, staff and students streaming by constantly.

All in all, I feel more comfortable in the smaller Jepson space. Maryland Hall was great, but it was just too darn big. I'm going to have to work to keep up regularly with my friends in Maryland Hall, but I now can start learning more of the technical side of Banner than I could before. Plus I get to hang out with my team, the Administrative Technologies Group. When I was in Maryland Hall I made a point of stopping by every day to check in with everyone (they're all quite tolerant). Now I'll be able to keep up with them from the comfort of my own space.

Change is the only constant.

weather
It smelled like Spring today. As I was walking from Jepson Hall over to the Registrar's Office (they're in the middle of processing all the seniors for this weekend's graduation) I stopped thinking about work for long enough to breathe in a little Spring.

I've set up a webcam page. The page only refreshes when I'm home and awake, which is mostly nights and weekends.
