    MUS 343: The Mass from Plainchant to Pärt

Study of representative musical settings of the Mass from the Middle Ages to present day with an emphasis on the tensions between artistic expression and liturgical function. Prerequisite: MUS 227 or 228 or permission of instructor. 3 semester hours meeting Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:15 until 3:30.

    MSEN 194: University Choir

A large mixed chorus for both music majors and general students that studies and performs a cappella and accompanied repertoire from a variety of style periods and origins. Regular performances on and off campus, including major works from the choral-orchestral repertoire. Audition required the first semester a student enrolls. Three semesters of successful participation will fulfill the General Education requirement in the Visual and Performing Arts field of study. 1 semester hour meeting Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:30 until 6:45 p.m.

    MSEN 196: Schola Cantorum

Small mixed choir that studies and performs repertoire appropriate to the ensemble from a wide variety of style periods and origins. The emphasis is on a cappella works from the Western canon as well as world musics. Regular performances on and off campus, including regular international tours. Audition required each semester a student is enrolled. Three semesters of successful participation will fulfill the General Education requirement in the Visual and Performing Arts field of study. 1 semester hour meeting Mondays and Wednesdays from 4:00 until 5:20 and Thursdays from 5:00 until 6:00.
