Hacienda Tabi
Hacienda Tabi, one of the architectural jewels of the Yucatan,
was once a thriving sugar plantation. The Living in Yucatan class
stays at Tabi for the several days of field work and activities
at Rancho Kiuic and nearby villages.

(above) The formal Moorish Arch entrance to Hacienda
Tabi. The present access road to Hacienda Tabi traverses an extensive
fruit orchard and terminates at one end of a huge lawn that represents
the site's former workyard. In other words, the road leads to
the rear of the building. Continuing along the rutted driveway
around the perimeter wall will eventually lead to this formal
grand entrance way to the grounds.

as seen from just inside the Moorish Arch entrance. A portion
of the church ruins is visible to the rear.
(above) Hacienda Tabi, viewed from the first gate at
the end of the access road. The large lawn was once the workyard
of the sugar works. In other words, this view is actually the
rear of the Hacienda.

Ruins of the church. The roof is completely gone but
the great internal arches defining the vault of the nave remain.
