XXVIII. Translate each of the following sentences into PL. [Assume only Andrea, Bentley, Charles, and Dierdre exist.]

  1. Andrea is both intelligent and beautiful, but not rich.
  2. Charles is rich and beautiful, but not intelligent.
  3. Deirdre is beautiful, rich, and intelligent.
  4. Bentley is neither rich, nor beautiful, nor intelligent.
  5. If Bentley is intelligent, so are Deirdre and Andrea.
  6. Andrea loves Bentley but despises Charles.
  7. Andrea loves herself and Charles and despises both Bentley and Deirdre.
  8. Charles neither loves nor despises Andrea, but both loves and despises Deirdre.
  9. Charles likes Bentley if and only if Bentley is both shorter than Charles and is rich.
  10. Andrea likes both Bentley and Deirdre but doesn't love either of them.
  11. If Deirdre is shorter than Charles and Charles is shorter than Andrea, then Deirdre is shorter than Andrea.
  12. If Bentley desires Deirdre and she desires him, then they love each other.
  13. If Charles is neither rich nor beautiful nor intelligent, then no one loves him.
  14. Only Deirdre is rich.
  15. Only Bentley is both rich and intelligent.

XXIX. Translate each of the following sentences into PL.

  1. Everything is black.
  2. Something is red.
  3. Someone loves Mike, but not everyone loves Mike.
  4. No one hates George.
  5. Everyone will study, but not everyone will pass.
  6. If Gertrude passes, then someone will not pass.
  7. Either no one will pass or Gertrude will pass.
  8. If anyone passes, both George and Mike will pass.
  9. Not everyone will pass, but Michelle will.
  10. Some, but not all, will pass.
  11. Rhoda will pass if someone does, and Gertrude will pass only if everyone does.
  12. No one will pass if Gertrude doesn't pass, and Gertrude won't pass unless everyone studies.
  13. If everyone studies everyone will pass.
  14. Some will pass only if everyone studies.
  15. Everyone studying is a necessary condition for everyone passing.
  16. If no one studies, then no one will pass.
  17. If George passes, then everyone passes.
  18. No one will pass, unless someone does not fail.
  19. Mike is honest unless George is honest, in which case not everyone is honest.
  20. Gertrude will pass if and only if not everyone will pass.
