About the English 313 Midterm:

The format of the midterm will be as follows:

40% short answers (identifications, definitions).

You will need to know the author & title of the poems, essays, and novel we've read, character names, literary terms associated with the works, and perhaps the occasional phrase or line from a work. (The latter will be very obvious.) You'll have a choice of questions.

60% short essay, passage-based.

I'll give you a choice of passages from works we have read and ask you to write a brief essay on one of them, noting both some of its literary devices and its relationship to the larger themes of the course.

Bring lined paper and write in dark ink, please!
