Research Projects

Dr. Stevenson is interested in environmental analysis of surface water systems using a combination of spectroscopy and chemometrics. A frequent goal of the research is to develop analytical methodologies that can be used on-site in a variety of situations, circumventing the need for collection, storage and transport of samples for subsequent laboratory analysis. Remote sensing with fiber optics plays a major role in most of Dr. Stevenson's projects. Current research focuses on the characterization of the phytoplankton of eutrophic and oligotrophic lakes, and the analysis of bioavailable organic pollutants using semipermeable membrane devices (SPMDs) as surrogate systems.
