The Mathematica electronic notebooks developed for Classical Mechanics (Physics 303) are available below along with a description of how to load them onto your computer. All of the notebooks have been tested. If you have any problems send me email at ggilfoyl@richmond.edu

The Mathematica Notebook files contain ASCII text, and can be transferred by email, scp, or other text-file transfer utility. You can right-click on the links below and save the files to disk. The files can then be read or edited using a copy of Mathematica or MathReader.

• introduction.nb Computational laboratory that demonstrates how to make functions and plot them, make lists of data and plot them, combine different plots together, and to get help.

• vibratingCantilever.nb Investigation of the properties of a device proposed for use as a biosensor to detect the presence of airborne toxins or pathogens.

• integrals.nb Doing definite, indefinite, and numerical integrals in Mathematica.

• semilogPlots.nb This can be a useful way to present your data or calculations when the plots cover a wide range of values.

• eigen2.nb Examples of tools for obtaining the eigenvalues and eigenvectors from a matrix and also getting the coefficients of a sum of eigenvectors for a particular set of initial conditions.

• rutherfordOrbits.nb Investigation of Rutherford scattering and the behavior of the orbit equation for nuclear scattering.
